About Bay State Fencers
Thank you for your interest in Bay State Fencers!
It all began in 2004 when I founded BSF in Somerville, MA. My goal was to expand access to the Olympic Sport of Fencing in the Boston area. I originally offered a club and academy for Foil, Epee, and Sabre. At that time fencing was still a niche sport and there were only a few fencing clubs in Massachusetts. Today fencing has become mainstream and BSF focuses exclusively on Epee. Over the past 15 years there has been tremendous growth of the sport not only locally but, regionally, and nationally. Due to this growth we are relocating to a new larger facility in Watertown, MA in the fall of 2019. Bay State Fencers is a Premier Member Club of USA Fencing, the recognized national governing body for the Olympic Sport of Fencing in the United States.

BSF coaches teach classes, offer private lessons, support fencers during open fencing and bouting, and strip coach at local, regional and national competitions.
L. Stacy Eddy
Mr. Eddy began his fencing career with an Introduction to Fencing course in college. He has also been involved with the Society of American Fight Directors since its inception in the early 1970’s. Fencing and stage combat have been important aspects of his career ever since. He owes his dedication to the art of the sword to two Masters, Alex Beguinet, Maître d’Armes and Head Coach of Duke Fencing, and David Boushey, founder and Fight Master Emeritus of the Society of American Fight Directors. The United States Fencing Coach Association (USFCA) and USA Fencing Coaches College certify Mr. Eddy in all three weapons. He is also a Prevot de Armes in Epee. Bay State Fencers is the culmination of a lifelong passion for, and commitment to, the sport of fencing.
Competitive Program Director
Our mission, at Bay State Fencers, is to educate the community about the modern Olympic Sport of Epee Fencing and to train individuals of all ages to succeed at the sport. The following principles help us to measure the appropriateness of our decisions:
Bay State Fencers offers open fencing, fencing classes, competitive fencing programs, private lessons, and fencing clinics for Epee fencers. We welcome members and students from communities surrounding Watertown, Cambridge, Newton, Boston, and visiting epee fencers from around the world. To help our visitors participate at BSF we are pleased to offer uniform and equipment rentals.
You do not need to be experienced or to be highly competitive to fence with us. Our professional coaches create a fun, safe, and supportive learning environment for athletes of all ages. BSF is committed to supporting each individual as they work to achieve their personal, athletic, and competitive goals. We do this by fostering the principles of respect, patience, and competitive spirit.
Our youth, adult, and veteran fencers are active competitors. As one of New England’s foremost epee clubs our members and students regularly win medals locally, regionally, and nationally. Many of our high school fencers go on to join fencing programs at top colleges and universities including, most recently, Brown, Duke, Stanford, and the University of Pennsylvania.
